Monosof™ Monofilament Nylon Sutures
Description
DERMALON™ and MONOSOF™ monofilament sutures are sterile, inert, non-absorbable surgical sutures composed of long-chain aliphatic polymers, Nylon 6 and Nylon 6.6.
Indications
DERMALON™ and MONOSOF™ monofilament nylon sutures are indicated for approximation and/or ligation of soft tissue in general surgery, including cardiovascular, ophthalmic, and neurological surgery.
Action
DERMALON™ and MONOSOF™ monofilament nylon sutures elicit a minimal acute inflammatory reaction in tissue, followed by gradual encapsulation of the suture by fibrous connective tissue.
Tensile Strength
As with any nylon suture, although they are non-absorbable, progressive hydrolysis of the suture in vivo may result in a gradual loss of tensile strength over time.
Sterilization
DERMALON™ and MONOSOF™ monofilament nylon sutures are sterilized with ethylene oxide or by gamma irradiation.
Packaging
DERMALON™ monofilament nylon sutures are available dyed blue with FD&C Blue No. 2, in sizes ranging from 2-0 (3 metric) to 6–0 (0.7 metric).
MONOSOF™ monofilament nylon sutures are available either clear (undyed) or black with Logwood extract, in sizes ranging from 2 (5 metric) to 11–0 (0.1 metric).
Both types of sutures are supplied sterile, in pre-cut lengths, attached to needles using permanent needle attachment techniques.
